  • Doctor! I want to cure people!
  • Fifty cents...I need it for my school...black history book...
  • Conflict
  • FOR SALE
  • Rising Action (Complication)
  • Thanks Mama!
  • $3,000 for Beneatha's education, and the rest is yours son.
  • The Younger family lives in a very small, cramped, and a miniature apartment in southside Chicago. Their room is so cramped that Travis, who is the fifth generation of the family, has to sleep in the sofa.  Big Walter, the father of Walter, Beneatha, and the wife of Mama, also called Lena Walter, is dead and there is a $10,000 life saving insurance money due to arrive soon. Walter anticipates to use it for a liquor store, Beneatha hopes to use it for her medical school to achieve her ambitious dream of becoming a doctor, and Mama is still ambivalent on what to use it for. Ruth faints which indirectly pinpoints that she is pregnant.
  • Climax
  • Walter feels like nobody is listening to him and his ambitious dream of investing on a liquor store. He somehow tries to get ahead of it but Mama refuses to give him the money and instead, goes downtown, where barely any blacks live. She goes there and buys a house in Clybourne Park which could be very dangerous for them since there are no blacks living there. This shows a sign of segregation and undeniable reality.
  • Falling Action
  • After her purchase of their new accomodation in Clybourne Park, she decides to give the remaining $6,500 to Walter to put aside for Beneatha's education, and to invest in the liquor store. This hints that Mama has gave the privilege of being the leader of the family to Walter and also shows her genuine trust towards Walter, which eventually doesn't end well.
  • Resolution
  • Bobo hastily arrives at Walter's apartment with full of deplore and uneasiness. He tells Walter that WIlly Harris took all the money they gave him for the liquor store investment and ran away. Of course, Walter did not put aside $3,000 for Beneatha's medical school which he was supposed to and the whole family is now in panic, misery and agony. Mama doesn't know what to do about it since such a huge amount of money has disappeared in just a blink, and Beneatha's ambitious dream of becoming a doctor seems futile.
  • Once a cat takes off with its food, it ain't gonna leave no maps Walter...I'm sorry.
  • Come on Bobo! Willy Harris should be somewhere...He  wouldn't have gone too far...What are you waiting for, let's go find him!
  • This can't be happening...it was made from my father's flesh!
  • After they have faced da deception, Walter decides to call Lindner over and accept his offer in order to recoup at least some of their losts. Asagai arrives at Beneatha's house and invites her to marry him and move to NIgeria to advance her ambitions which gives BEneatha at least a slight hope. Mama thinks that Walter's willingness to make a deal with Lindner will eventually leave him with nothing inside.
  • I hope you people know what you guys are going to face...
  • We don't want your money. Get lost.
  • Walter realize that he cannot trade his pride and dignity with money, especially in front of his son. So he tells Lindner to get lost. The Youngers ultimately leaves the apartment in a triumphal mood. They all went out as they waited for all their stuff to be carried out but Mama comes back tot grab her plant , which represents her dream of a happy and content family in a home where they can call their own.
