Social Stratification East Egg vs. West Egg
Gatsby lived on the less fashionable side of the bay. In West Egg, is where you can find Gatsby's mansion. West Egg is the source of New Money, where people spend their time having tea, and throwing extravagant parties.
From the end of Gatsby's dock, you can see the green light across the water at Tom and Daisy's house. Tom and Daisy live in East Egg where money is old and has lasted generations.
Over in East Egg, the houses were even more elaborate. Tom and Daisy's house was, "a cheerful red-and-white Georgian Colonial mansion, overlooking the bay"(6).
Daisy and Tom's house differed from Nick and Gatsby's house. Although, they had very nice and unique housing items, they don't carelessly spend their money on throwing large parties.
Social Stratification is most definitely present between East and West Egg. The towns are separated not only by the water, but by where your money comes from. Instead of East v.s. West Egg, it can also be called New v.s. Old.
