Lena and her family were taken unexpectedly, because, they helped their family flee the country.
Many people died in the soviet invasion some officers, but also many civilians. On Lena’s packed train car, many people died each day.
Over 100,000 patrollers roamed many of the camps, even though there were a bunch of them, Lena got the worst officers. Many of them would spit, kick dirt, hit, push, and make fun of them.
Taken to another camp, Lena was filling the 10-year long invasion with sad deaths, excruciating labor camps, and mean patrollers.
The patrollers hid Lena and her fellow workers once in the book when the Americans, their once close allies, came by to check on supplies. The Soviets didn’t want the Americans to know what they were doing to these people.
After the invasion, Lena and her husband move away from Afghanistan because of how poor it became after.
