Hello class today we will be learning about sound. These instruments are examples of sound. Sound is a form of energy that travels as waves.
All sound is caused by vibrations. When you play your drum Lilly it vibrates making sounds. Same with you John when you blow into your flute it vibrates inside.
Oh I get it now but what about the types of sound my drum makes. My drum sounds loud.
Me too! But my instrument is the opposite. It has a quiet sound.
Your thinking about pitch. Pitch is how low or high a sound is A drum as a low pitch. But, your flute John as a high pitch.
That makes sense now!
Wow John. You blew into your flute with a lot of intensity.
Good Question Lilly. Intensity is the amount of energy in a sound wave. For example, when John blew into the flute with a lot of air, he blew into the flute with a lot of intensity. To measure intensity you use decibels. A higher decibel as a greater intensity than a lower decibel which as a lower intensity.
So if you blow into the flute with more air you blowing in with energy which is intensity.
Great work today class! Now you know all about sound.
