Storyboard Text

  • Hello class today we will be learning about sound. These instruments are examples of sound. Sound is a form of energy that travels as waves.
  • All sound is caused by vibrations. When you play your drum Lilly it vibrates making sounds. Same with you John when you blow into your flute it vibrates inside.
  • Oh I get it now but what about the types of sound my drum makes. My drum sounds loud.
  • Me too! But my instrument is the opposite. It has a quiet sound.
  • Your thinking about pitch. Pitch is how low or high a sound is A drum as a low pitch.  But, your flute John as a high pitch.
  • That makes sense now!
  • Wow John. You blew into your flute with a lot of intensity.
  • oooooooohhhhhhhh.
  • What's intensity?
  • Good Question Lilly. Intensity is the amount of energy in a sound wave. For example, when John blew into the flute with a lot of air, he blew into the flute with a lot of intensity. To measure intensity you use decibels. A higher decibel as a greater intensity than a lower decibel which as a lower intensity.
  • Exactly.
  • So if you blow into the flute with more air you blowing in with energy which is intensity.
  • Great work today class! Now you know all about sound.
  • Yay!!!
  • Yay!!!
