The Munster Plantation
Queen Elizabeth I of England orderd the Munster Plantation.It started in 1579.Elizabeth sent Adventurers to Ireland to claim land.They claimed to be descendants of Normans who had left Ireland centuries earlier.Only 6000 settlers came.
Settlers were called undertakers. Land was divided into plots between 4000 and 12000 acres.Only 6000 settlers came.There were lots of rules for the undertakers. Elizabeth's favourite was Sir Walter Raleigh he was given 42,000 acres of land in Cork.
Some of the Results were New towns,the spread of English Language,new farming methods and new industries. The Munster Plantation was neither a complete success nor a complete failure.
