2nd Set of 6 Panels (Second Page)
Montag and his wife discussed life and argued, and some conflict arises. Montag considers quitting his job as a fireman because he didn't mind burning books before, because they were only objects other than people. Montag talked to her about that too.
Captain Beatty arrives at Montag's home.
Beatty enters their home and starts talking about the history of books and book burning. Mildred finds the book under Montag's pillow but Montag cuts her off and yells at her to leave before she's able to draw Beatty's attention to it.
Beatty continues to talk about book burning and answers some of Montag's questions about it.
Clarisse in brought up in conversation and when Montag asks about her, Beatty says that "people like Clarisse are better off dead" because of the trouble of books and education. This upsets Montag. When asked if he will return to work, he says "Maybe."
Beatty drives away in his car and Montag, looking out into the street remembers everything that Clarisse has said to him.
