Safie's father, a Turkish merchant, is arrested falsely but convicted nevertheless. "It was judged that his religion and wealth rather than the crime alleged against him had been the cause of his condemnation."
The Turk is visited by his daughter while he is in jail. This is when Felix finds her and the two fall in love.
To win her love, Felix breaks him out of jail. The Arab wants to return to Constantinople but Safie is in love with Felix. The Arab doesn't like the idea of his daughter marrying a Christian. Felix, however, gets discovered by French government.
Felix is arrested and placed in prison for his actions. He and his family, including Agatha and De Lacey lose their fortune and are exiled to Germany.
Safie decides to seek them out. Her and her father show up where the creature is watching the family in their small, removed cottage.
"the ingratitude of the Turk and the loss of his beloved Safie were misfortunes more bitter and irreparable. The arrival of the Arabian now infused new life into his soul."
