  • Bigger is a man who lives with is family of two younger siblings and his mother. The story begins with them finding a rat in their small apartment. The way they get rid of the rat is by making Bigger killing the rat. This foreshadows his attitude toward multiple things and his personality.

  • The rising action is when Bigger decides to take the job from Mr.Dalton. On his first night of working, he is supposed to take Mary to school but Mary tells him otherwise. Bigger ends up taking Jan and Mary out for drinks and to eat. Mary ends the night very drunk, causing her not to be ale to go to her room on her own. This is when Bigger ends up in her room while Ms.Dalton walks in to her. Bigger ends up killing Mary.
  • Resolution
  • Bigger is now out on the loose because the body of Mary has been found. He goes to his girlfriend Bessie as if nothing is wrong. He talks to Bessie about everything that has happened but he's worried that Bessie is going to get him caught. This fear causes him to rape and kill Bessie. He spends the night on the run but eventually gets caught by the police.
  • Bigger is now on trial for the murder of both Bessie and Mary. Jan helps Bigger find a lawyer named Max. Bigger begins to trust Max as he helps him try to get sentenced for life rather than having a death penalty.
  • Bigger is found guilty. He talks to Max thanking him for everything he has done for him. He also tells Max to thank Jan for what he has done. This goes to show the audience that a black man can really trust a white man.
