Madame Loisel is middle-class who is not happy with her simple life. She feels she has a simple and poor life especially since she feels she married beneath her.
One evening her husband came home with an envelope to an extravagant party. Madame Loisel felt that she had nothing to wear, so she asked to borrow a necklace from Madame Foreister
At the party Madame Loisel has a great time until she misplaces the necklace and can not find it.
To replace the lost necklace Madame Loisel bought a duplicate necklace for $40,000 franks. Even though she has no money for the necklace she buys it in remorse. To buy the necklace she has to ask friends and family for money.
In the end, Madame Loisel realizes that the entire situation could have been avoided if she had told the truth.
