Pi and the Japanese interviewers meet and they interview Pi about the sinking of the tsimtsum.
Pi tells him the story of his survival at sea.
The Japanese interviewers are baffled at his story and are reluctant to believe his story.
"Sole survivor could shed no light on reasons for sinking of Tsimtsum. Ship appears to have sunk very quickly, which would indicate a major hull breach. Important quantity of debris would support this theory... Very few castaways can claim to have survived so long at sea aas Mr. Patel, and none in the company of an adult Bengal tiger" ( Martel 319).
Pi tells them an alternative story without animals.
The Japanese interviewers are again baffled and see similarities between the stories.
