Gradwitz stood one winter night watching and listening,on the quest of a human enemy. The narrow strip of precipitous woodland on the outskirt was not remarkable for the game or the shooting it afforded, it was the most jealousy guarded of all its owner's territorial possessions.
The two enemies stood face to face for a long silent moment. Both had guns in there hand each had hate and murder in there minds. And before the moment of hesitation,a deed of Nature's own violence overwhelmed them both. A fierce shriek of the storm had been answered by splitting crash over there heads.
A mass of falling beech tree had thundered down on them. Gradwitz found himself stretched on the ground, one arm numb beneath him and the other held homplessly in a tight tangle of forked branches. Georg lay beside him. alive and struggling, but obviously as helplessly pinioned down himself.
They both told each other that when there men found them that they would release the one guy first and shoot to kill the other. And then the other persons men would find them dead under the fallen tree. For forms sake they would send there condolences to there family.
