  • He is lonely.  Boredom means 1) I don't know what to do with myself and 2) I hate what I am made to do.
  • I am bored.  This is so stupid.  And you are so boring.
  • School shootings.  Trade Wars.  Border Walls.
  • I need to impress my friends
  • Family Expectations
  • Hormonal changes
  • I'm in the Principal's office again.  I can't do anything right.
  • Demands at school
  • It's okay to be wrong. This stuff has to be learned.  Nobody wakes up with Calculus in their heads unless they are part of the Matrix.   I'm wrong sometimes, you guys can be too.   The important thing is to try. And to speak up if something is confusing.
  • I forgot about the test.
  • Ugh.  We have been talking about the test for three weeks.  These teens sure do have problems with planning.  I will set a good example with my emotional response. 
  • It doesn't make it okay, but we are still developing the limbic and pre-frontal cortex of our brains.
  • This headscarf means a lot to me.  Kids suck.  People are mean.  They want to fit in and be liked, and often they think that being mean to others is okay.  They have trouble seeing from someone else's perspective.

  • I see people being mean to you all of the time because you are different.  Why don't you try to look like everyone else?
  • These kids are dealing with a lot of pressure.  And it never shuts off as they can't separate their online world from the real world.  We need to teach them material that is engaging, so that they have a lot of material to learn, think about, and fire up that myelination!  In addition, we need to make sure they feel safe, allow them to be adolescents, encourage them to sleep, eat healthy, and exercise.
