  • The fire, over there
  • In 1944, in the village of Sighet, Romania, twelve-year-old Elie Wiesel spends much time and emotion on the Talmud and on Jewish mysticism. His instructor, Moshe the Beadle, returns from a near-death experience and warns that Nazi aggressors will soon threaten the serenity of their lives.
  • Chapter 3
  • In chapter one of 'Night' the main character, Elie Wiesel, lives in the town of Sighet. This town has just been invaded by the Hungarian police. After the town the been invaded the Jews were separated from the rest of the people and were given certain restrictions. Toward the end of chapter one the Jews were taken to to the train station, loaded into cattle cars, and taken to an unknown location by German forces.
  • Chapter 4

  • One by one, the houses emptied and the streets filled with people carrying bundles. By ten o'clock everyone was outside. pg. 16
  • In this chapter the Jews are being transported to an unknown location. On the train there is a women who is constantly screaming about a fire. Everyone said she was crazy, and didn't believe her until they reached their destination and realized the "crazy" women wasn't so crazy after all.
  • Chapter 5 
  • I ran without looking back. My head was spinning: you are too skinny...you are too weak.. you are too skinny, you are good for the ovens. pg 72
  • Once they are all off the train, the men and women are separated.  Elie and his Father were put together, after that the men all marched together into a barrack and were shaved and striped of their old clothes and then given a prison uniform. They make another march from Birkneau to Auschwitz. Where they stay for awhile and given their numbers tattooed on them. Finally , they go on another march from Auschwitz to Buna, a camp where they will be force to work.
  • After four hours we arrived at the new camp: Buna . The iron gate closed behind us. pg. 46
  •   After Elie is checked by medical and quarantine inspection in where they searched for gold crowns, he is sent to work. After a while Elie is called for his gold crown to be taken out but he asks for an extension because he feels sick. after Elie is called back for the third time he found out the dentist has been hung for illegally trading gold and jewelry. A prison foreman named Franek soon discovers Elie's gold tooth starts to tease his father until he gives it up. During an air raid, Elie watches a man try to steal some soup but is then shot dead, and another man is hung because he tried to steal during the air raid as well.
  • I shall remove your gold crown, that's all.
  • In chapter 5 all the Jews gather to celebrate the new year which they call Rosh Hashanah.  In this chapter Elie loses his faith towards God. Together him and his father decide not to vast. Also in this chapter there is a selection Elie does pass the selection, but his father however doesn't.  Elie is sent to the infirmary due to a pain in his foot. while he is in there the other soldiers are coming their way and they decide to move the jews who aren't in the infirmary to a different camp. Elie then slips out of the infirmary to join the others.
