  • The U.S. had treaties with the Native Americans that stated the Native Americans had a right to their land. The U.S. had stated that they wouldn't take control of the Native Americans' land.

  • The U.S. government called the Native Americans "savages" because they lived differently. The U.S. government also said that the Native Americans had to become more like the Americans in order to keep their land.
  • Worcester v. Georgia Supreme Court Case
  • In the 1820s, lots of gold was found in the Cherokee territory. Since the U.S. government wanted the gold they tried to take the land away from the Cherokee because their land was suddenly valuable.

  • The Indian Removal Act of 1830 was passed by Congress in order to remove all Native Americans from their land or territory. This act was passed despite it being Unconstitutional.

  • Worcester v. Georgia was a last attempt for the Cherokee to keep their land. Cheif Justice John Marshell declared that Georgia had no right to take the Cherokee's land. However President Jackson didn't care and removed the Cherokee anyway.
  • Ugh whatever!

  • The Trial of Tears was the trial that the Native Americans marched in order to find new moves after being displaced. This trail was harsh and many didn't have the correct supplies. Out of the 50,000 people who went on the Trail of Tears, around 11,000 died.
