The Ionian Greeks asked for help from the Greek on the mainland. King Darius I of Persia was angry that the Athenians had helped the Ionians rebel against the Persia and declared war on Athens on 429 B.C.E.
Battle of Salamis
The battle of Marathon started on 490 B.C.E. Athens won that battle because of their Phalanx formation, a type of strategy they had. Pheidippides, ran to warn Athens that the Persians were coming.
Battle of Plateau
The attack happened in 480 B.C.E Xerxes leads his army into. Leonides tries to hold off them but all 300 died. Persia won that war against Athens and Sparta.
Effects of the War
The battle started on 480 B.C.E. The Athens tricked the Persians into fighting. In a narrow waterway. Persian ships were larger and got stuck.
The battle started in 479 B.C.E. The Greeks defeated the Persians that were left behind to fight. End of war.
After the war, Athens created the Delian League. It was an alliance with other city states to protect themselves if Persia ever invaded again.
