It is specific and improves over time, being able to recognize the same pathogen if it attacks again.They detect and eliminate intruders, with the possibilty to "tag" them to eliminate them easier. It is composed by Lynfocites B and T, that create memory cells and antibodies to make the elimination of the pathogen easier and quicker.
Characteristics of the 3rd barrier

Lymphocytes are one of the most important cells in the body and the last line of defense againts pathogens. There are two types of lymphocytes , T and B, which we are going to see more in detail later. Both are produced in the bone marrow, while B-lymphocytes develop here, T-lymphocytes develop in the thymus.

T-lymphocytes are in charge of the celular response. When a fagocite shows an antigen to a T-lymphocyte, it activates and divides in two; a memory T-lymphocyte, and a cytotoxic T-lymphocyte. The last one goes to destroy the infected cell, meanwhile the memory cell creates records from the pathogen attack for a faster response next time it attacks.
