  • Ernest Hemingway's theme is don't run away from dreams
  •
  •
  • I'M NOT GIVING UP FISH! I'M GOING TO PROVE I STILL GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A FISHERMAN!
  • In the story Santiago was catching less and less fish each day but he never gave up, he always went on another fishing trip. So the character Santiago represents someone who doesn't want to give up on his/her dreams and Hemingway wanted to represent through that character to spread that message . “Maybe today. Every day is a new day. It is better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready.”(Hemingway, PG 8)
  • The authors purpose was to persuade because Hemingway wanted to prove he was still worthy as a writer and people wanted his work. So he wrote The old man and the sea. And he made Santiago someone that doesn't give up because of minor to major set backs. “Hemingway was determined to make a point to his detractors and wrote The Old Man and the Sea a work that had been gestating in his imagination…” (Hemingway’s Life, PG 1) "He started to work his way back to the stern on his hands and knees, being careful not to jerk against the fish. He may be half asleep himself, he thought. But I do not want him to rest. He must pull until he dies." ( Hemingway, PG 21)
  • Who cares about luck, I will bring luck
  •
  • Hemingway used a great dialogue with Manolin and Santiago were talking to each other. There was quite a bit beginning and In the end. “No. I am not lucky. I am not lucky anymore.” “The hell with luck,” the boy said. “I’ll bring the luck with me.”
  • There is not luck with me
  •
  • I DON'T WANT GIVE UP ON MY DREAMS AND YOUR BOOK SHOWED ME THAT!
  • Hemingway's audience is people that don't want to give up on their dreams, because in his story The Old man and the Sea, the character Santiago was shown not to give up. And I can relate to him because I don't want to give up on my dreams I want to keep going and achieve them.
  • WE WANT YOUR BOOK THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA!
