Roger followed Henry down the beach. Both boys were trying to hide behind palms to stay cool.
Henry plays at the edge of the water. He digs tunnels and trails for the small ocean creatures to get caught in with the tide. He is fascinated by the 'power' he has over living organisms. Suddenly a gentle breeze blew across the beach and fell near Henry, just missing him. The coconuts gave Roger an idea and without the supervision of Mr. Albert, Roger picked up a stone and threw towards the littlun.
"Yet there was space round Henry... into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong was the taboo of the old life. Round the... child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law. Rogers' arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins" (62).
My dearest Lacie, I hope this letter finds you in good health. It seems that my group of schoolboys and I have plane-wreaked on an island in the middle of the sea. There is no mail service here but I will this letter in a bottle. One day, my love, we'll be back in eachothers arms. Your loving husband, Albert

Mr. Albert appeared from a walk down the beach and saw the little boy crying. He comforted the littlun and scolded Roger for being so unkind.
