Storyboard Text

  • My name is Toussaint Louverture I was born May 20, 1743 in St Domingue. it was later renamed Haiti.
  • This is my bedroom. I have many books because I like to read and I learned how to write.
  • I was born into slavery, but I was freed in 1776. I got married and have 2 sons. I became a livestock handler.
  • In 1791, I led a slave revolt. The freedom of freed slaves were under attack! Me and my army fought so hard that we won 7 battles in 7 days.
  • The slave revolt was a success! I proved to be a strong leader and I became the President of Haiti. The people adore me because they can continue to be free.I think there might be trouble with France's new leader Napoleon. It seems like he still wants slavery, but I will never allow it! Napoleon sent a message that he wants to have a peaceful meeting with me. I will go so I can make sure my people stay independent.
  • I was tricked by Napoleon! I have been captured and put in a prison dungeon in the mountains. I am no longer able to help fight for freedom, but my people of Haiti did not give up. Haiti won independence in 1804.
