Allopatric isolation is caused by a barrier formation such as mountains, rivers, roads or buildings.
The elephants had gotten separated by the trees that started to grow and they went into their new environment and made new species because of the isolation.
Instead of having one species of the elephant there is now two to adapt to their new environment that they were separated into.
