It was a dark and stormy day. There was a new shipment of slaves coming in. The slaves were chained in the bottom of the ship, with minimal space for both men and women. 15% of the slaves would die, mainly from disease or starvation.
The slaves were kept in terrible places. Warehouses, barns, some were even left on the ship to be auctioned off.
Slaves were then bought by rich, usually white, people. There worked on plantations where they were beaten and whipped if they showed up late. The life of a slave was hard and cruel. If a slave tried to run away, they would punish them, most of the time cutting their Achilles Tendon so that they were unable to run.
