Storyboard Text

  • Today is August 23, 1942 and the Germans have started bombing our city of Stalingrad.
  • Hello, my name is Ivan Stevrapolskii.
  • I am a soldier in the Soviet Army.
  • The Germans started bombing us with high intensity. Destroying our valuable targets and destroying a lot of our troops. They were hoping to take over the Volga river, which would have posed a valuable trade route.
  • Although the battle looked hopeless for us to win, we still fought to the best of our ability, killing hundreds of Wehrmacht troops.
  • The fighting went on for us and the Germans did not send troops to the city at first, although they bombarded the city with cannons.
  • Today, Joseph Stalin issued order No. 227, stating that we will not retreat, and if we do, then that would be considered tribunal, with a death penalty.
  • We must keep Stalingrad at all costs, not a step back!
  • Finally, after more than 5 months of fighting, reinforcements arrived, surrounding the German troops. We gave the German the option to surrender, but they refused ad so we stormed Stalingrad and captured it back.
  • Get on your knees! Drop your gun!
  • I have a family, please!
