She gets to interview Chuck Yeager when he comes to school. Rex (her dad) helps her come up with interview questions with her on the porch the night before.
The next day, Jeannette asks Chuck her questions after the assembly. The other students get a little jealous that she got to talk to him.
Jeannette goes to her counselor to talk about colleges and decides she's going to New York in 5 months to go to school, so she can get in state tuition.
Five months later, before Jeannette leaves, Rex shows her the blueprints to the Glass Castle and how he's going to start working on it. She still decides to leave and packs her bags to get on the bus at 7:10 in the morning. As she's leaving, her dad gives her hus favorite jackknife, and waves her off.
