For today's Recess game, we're playing "The Concentration Game"! Everybody get in a circle!
When I throw the ball to you, remember to clap your hands and say a word before catching the ball! The category is Names!
Corn! Giraffes! Boogers! HAHA!
This is Gary, he's a Recess Guardian.
This game is really fun, but it's only fun if everyone follows the rules. Henry, how about you give me a category this time and be the leader?
The Recess Guardian explains the rules of the Concentration game.
The ball is thrown to Henry, he catches the ball without clapping and yells inappropriate things.
Some kids have more difficulty following the rules. But when Henry was given a choice to choose the category and be the leader, he was more engaged in the game and everybody was able to have fun!
The Recess Guardian decides to let Henry choose the next category and be the leader.
Yay! I get to be the leader?! The category is Animals!
Everybody is having fun passing the ball around!
I hope it's my turn next!
When you see kids not cooperating, not following the rules, or acting out, that may mean they need extra help or they’re not good at playing the games. Some things you can do to help are giving them options and choices, repeating the rules, and modelling good behaviour.
