Athena and Arachne By: Harper McCall
Arachne was an excellent weaver, and people came to see her from far and wide. Some people thought she was so good that they said that Athena herself must have taught her. When she heard this, she showed hubris and said, ¨ With my own ten fingers I ained this skill. As for Athena how could she be any better than me.¨
One day an old lady came to see Arachne, she warned Arachne to take back what she said about Athena. Then Arachne showed hubris and refused and said, ¨Stupid old women! Who gave you the right to speak to me, it is easy to see that you were never good for anything in your day, or else you wanted be hear to gaze at my talent.¨
Then the old lady turned into Athena, and Arachne was astonished, for she had never actually thought that she would come. Evven though she was astonished, she still challenged Athena to a weaving contest.
Then, when Arachne saw how swiftly Athena was weaving she got angry instead of worried. Then, Athena finished weaving nd went over to see what Arachne was weaving. Aachne had weaved different scenes of the gods doing bad, and selfish things. When Athena saw this, she ripped her work, and strucked Arachne across the face.
Then Arachne tried to kill herself, because she did not want to live with the insult that Athena had just done to her. Before she could, Athena turned into a giant spider, to punish her for what she had done.
