Storyboard Text

  • I'm on Hannah's tapes because I ignored her advice when she told me to stop driving after I hit a Stop sign. I kicked her out of my car because I didn't want to report the accident and get in trouble for drunk driving. Because of my carelessness, another accident occurred, and someone died.
  • At the beginning of the chapter, Jenny seems nice and helpful for taking Hannah home when she is vulnerable and not asking questions. By the end we know that she is afraid to accept responsibility and ignores the dangerous situation that she caused.
  • selfish: leaves scene of accident to avoid getting in trouble for drunk driving irresponsible: doesn't consider consequences of knocking down the Stop sign scared: didn't know what to do and didn't want to get in trouble
  • Jenny
  • Bryce
  • self-centered: takes what he wants with no regard for others' feelings immature: doesn't show respect for anyone; ignored signs of Hannah not wanting him sleazy: regularly takes advantage of girls
  • I shouldn't be on the tapes. Hannah is exaggerating our night together because she wanted a reason to kill herself. She never told me no or tried to push me away.
  • Bryce doesn't change throughout the chapter. He is always known as a sleazy guy who takes advantage of girls. Hannah knows this and uses him for it.
  • I'm on Hannah's list because I didn't do everything I could to help her. After I realized she was suicidal, I was unsure of how to help her. I didn't follow her or try to stop her when she left my office.
  • At the beginning of the chapter, we know that Mr. Porter is Hannah's last hope. We already know that he didn't do enough to help her because she followed through with her suicide, but we aren't sure what steps he may have taken to help her. The chapter reveals that he didn't chase her once her intentions were clear. He was the last person who could've helped her but didn't.
  • unqualified: an English teacher filling in as a counselor who didn't know how to deal with Hannah's situation unhelpful: didn't know what to say to Hannah or how to help her; let her leave after knowing she was suicidal careless: didn't follow Hannah after finding out she was suicidal
  • Mr. Porter
