  • The south Gets Missouri
  • It is equal everyone is happy
  • The North got Maine
  • Kansas – Nebraska Act
  • South wanted Kansas to be a slave state
  • The North wanted Kansas to be a free state
  • Compromise of 1850
  • The North and abolitionist become very upset over it.
  • The fugitive slave law come in with the Compromise of 1850
  • The South is happy with this since they can keep there slaves.
  • Missouri came into the states as a slave state, this led the Northern states to be angered so to compromise Maine joined as a free state.
  • Underground Railroad
  • States where allowed to vote if they wanted to be slave or free state. This lead to people going to these states to vote so it would be one there side. This lead to bleeding Kansas where fights and massacres occurred.
  • Election of 1860

  • The great compromise added California as a free state and New Mexico and Utah get to vote. This also added a worse Fugitive slave act, which didn't allow slaves to run away or get snuke out.

  • The North was happy that the slaves were able to escape.
  • The South was upset about the slaves being able to escape.
  • The election of Abraham Lincoln split the country, since the south didn't want to lose there slaves, but Abrahm Licoln won anyway. This triggered South carolina to seced causig a chain reaction with the other southern states.
  • Dred Scott was a slave in a free state who's master died, he sued the court to see if he could get his freedom. The court said no, since he is property not a human.
  • I am a slave in a free state with no mastr, let me be free!
  • But you are property! Sir. you can't legally take property
