  • Good Morning Everyone, Today we will be learning about mitosis!
  • Mitosis
  • Whats mitosis?
  • Well class, mitosis is a six step process. During mitosis one copy of the DNA is distributed into each of the two daughter cells.
  • Then comes anaphase (4)
  • Next is telophase (5)
  • Mitosis
  • What are the steps and what do they do?
  • -The cell copies its DNA in this phase
  • It starts with inerphase! (1)
  • - it spends most of its life in this face perparing for mitosis
  • Next is metaphase (3)
  • The chromosomes line up across the center of the cell Each chromosome attaches to a spindle fiber at its centromere, which still holds the chromatids together
  • The next phase is prophase (2)
  • Chromatin in the nucleus condenses to form chromosomes Spindle fibers form a bridge between the ends of the cell   The nuclear membrane breaks down
  •     During cytokinesis the cytoplasm divides, distributing the organelles into each of the two new cells.
  • Lastly is cytokinesis (6)
  • The centromeres split The two chromatids separate The cell becomes stretched out as the opposite ends pull apart
  • The chromosomes begin to stretch out and lose their rod-like appearance. This occurs in the two regions at the ends of the cell. A new nuclear membrane forms around each region of chromosomes
