  • Aghh I'm so boored!! I'm just going to watch the History Channel I guess.
  • The Enlightenment
  • This is John Locke. He was a philosopher and believed the power of the government should come from the consent of the governed. He also promotes natural rights.
  • The Enlightenment began hundreds of years ago. It was a time that early scientists believed reason could be used to research and gather evidence.
  • Jean-Jacques Rousseau agreed with Locke on many points. He said that people formed governments to protect their private property, and agreed that a good government is based upon a social contract. He also said that people need to rely more on emotion than reason alone.
  • Baron de Montesquieu focused on the government.  He liked limited government of  England, and reflected this in his ideas. He ensured separation of powers, or the government being split into branches. They limited each other, known as checks and balances.
  • Separation Of Powers
  • Checks And Balances
  • Volitaire opposed government favoring one religion and forbidding others. He believed that people should be allowed to choose what they believe in. He often criticized the Roman Catholic Church for keeping knowledge from the citizens in order to maintain the church's power.
  • That's enough for tonight.. zzzZZZZ
