Storyboard Text

  • Night by Elie Wiesel starts with Elie and his Jewish family of six. They were aware of the situation of Jews during WWII, but they cnotinued to live their lives without fear. When the German soldiers came to their town Sighet, their lives flipped upside-down.
  • Exposition
  • After the German soldiers come, they do many harmful things to the people of Sighet. FIrst, they confiscate all valuables or items of value. Second, they put all of the Jewish people of Sighet onto cattle cars, and they are all transported to concentration camps.
  • Conflict
  • Elie and his father were sent to one concentration camp while his mother and sisters were sent to another. This concentration camp is in Auschwitz, and Elie and his father were forced to perform physically demanding tasks. The Jewish prisoners were also not given proper and water, leading to instances of malnutrition.
  • Rising Action
  • Elie and his father get transported to a new concentration camp, Buna. Buna's labor camp did not have the same harsh conditions as Auschwitz had, but it was still a concentration camp nonetheless. In Buna, Elie witnesses great mistreatment of Jews, many hangings, and he begins to question if he should keep going in this life.
  • Climax
  • When Ally powers threaten the Buna camp, SS soldiers decide the Jews need to move to a new concentration group. The Jews are forced to run to a nearby camp. They run for a very long time, and many of the Jews fall and get trampled. Elie's father becomes very sick by the time they reach the new camp.
  • Falling action
  • Elie's father died of dysentery in the new concentration camp in Buchenwald. Elie gave up all belief in God after his father's death. When the camp is finally liberated, Elie saw himself in a mirror for the first time in over a year, and he said he didn't recognize himself.
  • Resolution
