Storyboard Text

  • Poseidon; Ruler of the Sea
  • RHEA
  • HERA
  • Poseidon and his five siblings are born. Their mother is Rhea and their father is Kronos.
  • ZEUS
  • Kronos was told by Gaia (earth) and starry Ouranos (sky) that he was destined to be overthrown by one of his own sons. For fear for this prophecy coming true, he proceeded to eat his children promptly after they were born. Because she knew that Kronos was doing this, Rhea made arrangements to hide her last son Zeus.
  • Zeus tricked his father into releasing his siblings. The three brothers then proceeded to start the Titan war. After they won the war the three brothers drew lots to determine which parts of the world they would each rule. Poseidon aquired the sea.
  • After this day, Poseidon has been known as the ruler of the sea. He has a home underwater but spends a substantial amount of time in Olympus. He is known to be the god of sea storms, floods, and earthquakes. Because of this Greeks pray to him for safe passages across the sea.
  • Along with being the ruler of the sea, Poseidon was also worshiped as a fertility god because of the copious amounts of women that he was linked to. He was married to Amphitrite and had  numerous children with her. He also pursued his sister Demeter in the form of a horse, producing the horse Arion. Along with these women, he was also believed to have relations with Tyro, Amymone, and Medusa.
  • Poseidon is known to be a moody and violent god capable of great destruction.
