The nation was feeling powerful they believed they were superior
They built a large and strong army, many thought this was proof the nation was naturally the leader in Asia but Japan wanted more and more land
But in Japan, people believed in Pan-Asianism. They thought growing their empire was a good thing and that it would free Asian territories from Western imperialism.
Korea became a Japanese colony in 1910. Japan's Emperor Meiji died in 1912. His first son, Yoshihito, rose to power. With that, a new era had begun and they called it the Taisho era.
