  • I can do what I please, after all I am the king so I only have to listen to God 
  • I hope you all learned from this !,,
  • James the I son Charles I came into power and believed in the divine right of kings, This soon became a problem for Parliament. In 1628 the Parliament tried to limit the kings powers by the petition of power.

  • In 1642 there was a start of a civil war, between the Cavaliers (kings supporters) and the Round-heads (parliament supporters) 
  • I'm gonna flee now !
  • King charles was soon beheaded after this incident, by Cromwell, he was the first monarch to loose his head in public

  • Soon, In 1660 son of Charles I (Charles II) is made king ! Charles II learned from his father and grandfather, No divine right of kings and no threats to the parliament. this causes the monarchy to be restored, and soon after this James II becomes king in 1685 (Charles' Brother)  he is openly catholic though which cased a bit of panic 
  • William and Mary where convinced to overthrow James II and take the throne. James II fled to France once he had realized that he had little support from England, The revolution was won with almost no bloodshed at all. 
  • In 1689 William and Mary accepted offer to the throne, they soon made the bill of rights that laid the foundation for constitutional monarchy. monarchy and parliament ruled together and destroyed the theory of divine right of kings
