There was a new student at Central Peel and Komal could tell that she was extremely shy and didn't know what to do, so she decided to step in!
Hi, I'm Sasha and I'm new to this school.
Hey there! My name is Komal Vachhani, but I go by Komal.
Okay! Thank you so much.
I know how it feels to be new. Do you want to come over after school to bake some cookies and we can go over the course work that you missed?
Am I not invited?!
Of course, you can come, because I believe in inclusiveness.
Something about linear relations always got to Komal. No one could figure out what it was. Lack of practice perhaps? But she's always had a passion for math.
While the cookies are baking, why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself Komal?
My favourite subjects in school are math and science. Grade 9 was shaky at times, but I pushed through and got pastit. However, linear relations got the best of me and most of my classmates! Ms. K was there to guide me through it, so I got saved!
I am a visual learner. In terms of math, I like to understand formulas and WHY they work.
I love reading, playing the violin, and playing sports. In fact, I'm working on my Bronze Medallion to get my lifeguard certifications!
I've always felt that my mathematical strength is algebra, and my weakness from last year, is obviously linear relations for some reason. I hope to fix that in grade 10!
This year, I plan to join DECA, Model UN, try out for the swim, badminton and tennis teams!
In the future, I aspire to be an aerospace engineer. I want to be able to take chemistry, physics, and all of the AP math courses offered at CPSS.
But to get there, I have to pass MPM2D9 first! My goal for this course is to gain an understanding of grade level math, but also get hints of grade 11 math, so I am ready for that. I hope that my final mark is at least a 90! I plan to do at least an hour of math practice per day to reach my goal.
Good for you Komal! BUT THE COOKIES ARE BURNING!
