Perseus flies to the island of the Gorgons and he sees stone animals and men scattered along the island. Perseus then sees the three hideous gorgons. Athena aids him in figuring out that Medusa is the one in the middle.
The Road Back
Medusa still asleep, Perseus swoops down with his invisible cap,shield, and sword and cuts off her head with one swift blow. Then, Perseus pulls out his magical wallet and shoves her head in. Careful not to look.
Perseus feels very accomplished, brave, and honored to have slain Medusa on his own. Along with his feelings of accomplishment Perseus held in his hand the head of Medusa which Polydectes had asked for. The mission was completed with out hinder.
The Return With Elixir
Little did he know the other two gorgons awoke upon Medusa's headless body's thrashing. As he was flying back home, both of his pursuers followed him but could not see him because of his invisible cap. Before he returned he slew a sea monster that was attacking a irresistible princess, whom he brought home to marry.
Upon arrival, in front of Polydectes Perseus told him that he had retrieved the head. Polydectes did not believe him and challenged his ability to finish his mission. Realizing, that Polydectes did not have Perseus's best interest at heart and only sent him on his mission to get rid of him. Perseus drew the head from his wallet, turning Polydectes to stone.
Perseus wanted to be part of the annual games, so he traveled to the city to take part. King Acrisius was on the sidelines watching when Perseus threw the disk hiting the king, killing him. Full filling the Oracles prophecy.
