Storyboard Text

  • Kortne, it is okay! You are doing great. I will show you a few techniques toward being a faster cashier.
  • Wow, thank you Sarah for your focus on "achieving goals and meeting the socioemotional needs" (94).
  • You will meet plenty irritated customers. Don't let them discourage you.
  • Because of her uplifting words and showing me different tricks when checking, I grew confident the longer that I worked there. She was a kind, but very firm about our chores and knowing the store like the back of our hand.
  • Sarah, a cashier manager at the company that I worked for, was always full of positivity and encouragement. She was never mean and always assured us to ask her for help. She always used a "coaching approach, a high-directive and high supportive style" (94).
  • A couple months later..
  • Aisle 4 ma'am!
  • Hello! Welcome to Brookshires! I hope you found everything!
  • Awesome Kortne! You have improved so much! I am proud!
  • Where is the bread?
  • When working as a cashier, I realized that I will come across a huge variety of different people. I learned that if they are grumpy, not talkative, very sweet, or happy, it should not change the way that I carry myself and my character. Personally, I grew a tougher skin.
  • Because Sarah showed that she believed in my capabilities, never gave up on me, or grew frustrated when I was a slow cashier, I learned to grow in confidence with what I had to offer. And through knowing that, I had built a nice attitude toward anyone that came in my line because I was simply happy to be at work.
  • Since Sarah's leadership style was very supportive, I was able to grow in confidence within myself. Because I loved working with her and learning from her, I did not hesitate to put passion into my job. I worked harder, smiled more, and when I had irate customers, I handled them with grace and compassion.
  • Smile employee of the month!
