In 1968, the soviet troops crushed the reform movement in Czechoslovakia. Communists used repression to try and maintain there power. Writers and other influences opposed the government.
In 1988 lots of demonstrations broke out. 500,000 people formed in Prague. In 1989 the communist party collapsed.
In 1989 Vavlav Havel was a writer who helped bring down the communist government he became the new president of Czechoslovakia, The Czechs and Slovaks in the end agreed to be peaceful.
