The three men, Icthoua, Le Gleo, and the narrator all were stuck inside the light tower without any food or water. The next day after signaling for help and not getting it, the tugboat pulls a barge of meat close to the Island. All the rats on the island run and swim to the barge. The barge is covered in oil from before, and the sailors on the tugboat throw a torch onto the barge. The barge explodes and all the rats not taken with the barge are eaten by the sharks, ready in the water. After, the sailors found us and took us to the hospital in Cayenne. Le Gleo's mind had cracked beyond repair, and they sent him to an insane asylum in France. Icthoua being the most wounded and senior of us died within a week in the hospital. The narrator, (who was a little crazy himself), decided to go back to the lighthouse and finish his time there. He also stated that he was sad and almost cried when he had to leave the lighthouse and the little island.
The three men made it through the night and the next afternoon, saw a tugboat with a barge in tow. The barge was filled with meat. Every single rat left the lighthouse and went to the barge.
As soon as the rats were on the barge, the men on the tugboat threw a torch at the barge. The whole barge blew up in flames and what rats weren't finished off by the explosion, the sharks gobbled up in the water.
The sailor took all 3 men to the mainland and took them to the hospital.
We were all treated in the hospital, Le Gleo's mind had cracked and they sent him to an asylum in France. Itchoua died a week later from injuries. The narrator just kept on working there until his time was over.
