  • Social Structure
  • Rome did not spring into being as a power on the Italian peninsula.  It began as a tiny village along the Tiber River.  It was an excellent location.
  • Art/Architecture
  • The Roman government in its entire history from founding to fall was a strange mix of a democracy and a republic. An interesting fact ist that the people of Rome took many of their ideas of government from the Ancient Greeks.
  • Engineering
  • Social class in ancient rome was hierarchical, but there were multiples and overlapping social hierarchies, and an individuals relative position in one might be higher or lower than in anothers.
  • Free Choice
  • Roman art includes architecture, painting, sculpture and mosaic work. Luxury objects in metal-work, gem engraving, ivory carvings, and glass, are sometimes considered in modern terms to be minor forms of Roman art, although this would not necessarily have been the case for contemporaries.
  • Romans are famous for their advanced engineering accomplishments, although some of their own inventions were improvements on older ideas, concepts and inventions.
