  • The Emancipation Proclamation was announced in September 1862. It freed all slaves in the South. This changed the war from preserving the Union to freeing slaves. Why were some slaves not freed?
  • General Lee surrendered at the Appomattox Court House in April 1865. This brought the Civil War to an end. Why did General Lee surrender?
  • Lincoln is shot by John Wilkes Booth in April 1865. He was a southern sympathizer. Reconstruction is harder without Lincoln. Why would reconstruction be harder without Lincoln?
