  • Stamp Act put into effect (taxation on newspapers, glass, paper, paint, and tea).
  • "Boston Tea Party" Colonists became fed up with the heavy taxation on goods so in retaliation, colonists threw 342 crates of tea into the harbor.
  • In response, Britain created a naval blockade.
  • The Continental Congress approved Robert Lee's motion to declare independence for England.
  • Delegates sent to philadelphia to talk about the creation of independence from Britain.
  • Signing of the Declaration of Independence.  JULY 4TH, 1776
  • Start of American Revolution.
  • America wins their Independence (1783).
  • Articles of Confederation (1776-1781) - No president or national court - authority rested with state legislature - feared strong central government - only 1 vote per state national government had no power over states
