  • This is the starting point of odysseus' adventure. He is at home in Ithaca with his wife and new born son.
  • Mentor/Helper/Assistance
  • Our hero receives a strange message asking him to go to the battle of troy and fight.
  • Cross the threshold
  • Odysseus refuses this message because he feels obligated to stay home and care for his son. He knew he would be gone for a long time and didn't want to miss out on his sons life.
  • Test/Allies/Enemies/Trials
  • The mentor in this story is the goddess of war and strength, Athena. She ready's him for his adventure home and for all the monsters that are crossing his path.
  • Odysseus finally leaves his home to start his adventure. This is when he starts off on his boat to go fight, explore, and learn new things.
  • A series of test or challenges are put on odysseus to prove his strength and wits. They faced things such as lotus eaters, cyclops, sirens, scylla, sun god, charybdis, ect.
