  • Ships unloaded soldiers, tanks, guns and other weapons onto 5 different beaches that stretched 50 miles.

  • On D-Day, as many as 4,400 troops died from the combined allied forces. Some 9,000 were wounded or missing.

  • The purpose of the invasion was to free Europe for Nazi control.
