Lincoln was inaugurated in March of 1865, inheriting the war. His theme of unity and forgiveness lead to a quick end to the war. He would later be assassinated just a few days after the war ended.
President Lincoln had three main gols of reconstruction: 1) Admit the Southern States back into the Union 2) Rebuild the Southern economy 3) Support former slaves in their new freedom
