The Persian War was between Greece and the Persians.The war started off in the Asia Minor but then went to Athens because Athens helped help out.
King Darius died in 486 B.C. his son Xerxes sent 200,000 solidiers in 800 ships.The Greeks still defeated them
Pericles was the starter of the Golden Age.He wanted a democracy so every one had a say in all decisions. He appointed people to positions based on talent, not social class. Pericles wanted public workers to get paid a salary.
Achievements Part 1
Pericles rebuilt Athens after the Persians burned much of the city. One of the many achievements of the Golden age is the advance in arts and science. Also architects worked hard to make Athens as beautiful as possible and it worked. They built gymnasiums,temples,and theaters.
Pericles also supported philosophers who are deep thinkers. Athens became a great center for knowledge. He called the city "the school of Greece".

Over time, Greek city-states realized that they needed to join together to make sure they kept control over Persia. They created a group known as the Delian League. Eventually, the league drove Persia out of all of their territory and were completely free from them. Because Athens was so strong, they began trying to take control over the other city-states. This led to problems.
