  • The Tell-Tale Heart
  • By: Edgar Allan Poe
  • Exposition
  • Rising Action
  • Climax
  • 1856, Baltimore, Maryland- I am not insane, for I can hear and see all things, in Heaven, Earth, and Hell. I also had no grudge against the old man, no want for his money, no arguments with him, but his eye vexed me beyond belief.
  • Falling Action
  • Come on in!!
  • I was nice to the old man more than usual before the night I killed him. At night though, I silently, cautiously, for I was wise not mad, I watched him in his sleep for a chance to see his vulture eye and to end myself of this misery.
  • Resolution
  • I admit to the deed, just stop, stop the beating of his treacherous heart
  • Seven nights of wait, and on the 8th night the old man stirs in his sleep. A small noise and he is wide awake, and the dreaded eye is all I can see... With a yell, I jump on the old man and shove him off the bed, and throw the mattress on him till he no longer breathes. After I am very careful to leave no evidence, dismembering the body in the bath tub, then dumping it beneath the floor boards.
  • The police have showed up at my front door, but what have I to fear, for the eye was no more!
  • The neighbors reported hearings of foul play, we have permission to search the premises.
  • I can hear a low dull sound in my ears, and it gets louder... and louder... and LOUDER.... Stop please, Anything but this, and they know, oh they know the are just mocking me in my misery, please make it stop!
  • *Chit-chat*
