The Russians who were pushing WWI to begin proved they were not well prepared as they focused on industrialization rather than militarism. Russia suffered mostly in the first year with over a total of 4 million casualties. They were also unable to hold back germany and lost almost 15% of its total population.

Czar Nicholas abdicated his throne and the Duma is re-established. The Duma however does not have enough power and struggles to rule over all of Russia.

The Bolsheviks led by Lenin seize political power in Russia. The bolsheviks are able to make peace with Germany. Lenin creates a mix of communism and capitalism in trying to bring the country back to its former glory.

The Russian Civil war was between the Reds & Whites. The Reds were loyal to the Bolsheviks while the Whites were Czarists. Eventually the reds kill Czar Nicholas II and defeat the Whites.
Lenin died in 1924 and Stalin took power. Stalin moves toward Totalitarianism with fast industrialization and unrealistic demands, and creates collectives.
Stalin did not let anyone get in the way of his ruling power. He purges government of all opposed to him or who threaten his power.
