Before school started Lara decided to go to the candy store and buy her favorite candy. Once she bought it she devoured it right away. As she was eating the Skittles all she could think about was where the candy was going to go?
When she arrived in her classroom she decided to go up to her teacher, and ask her where the candy had gone? The teacher told her that as the candy was taken through the mouth the salvia helped to break down the sugar.
After the food has entered through the mouth the muscles in the esophagus helped push the food down to the stomach. And in the stomach, there are enzymes that helped break down the food product.
Once the stomach has done its job the food then enters the small intestines. In the small intestines, the minerals and nutrients of the food are absorbed. Later the food enters the large intestine where there are barely any nutrients left, and takes the water from the food.
Now that the food has gone through the large intestine it enters the rectum. The rectum makes you want to go to the bathroom. From there the food leaves out of the body through the anus.
While walking home from school, Lara was so amazed at how the digestive system worked within our bodies. And couldn´t wait to eat dinner.
