This is all my fault. If I hadn't left Nana wouldn't have killed herself
Mariam tells her father she doesn't want to see him again
I'll visit you. I'll come to Kabul and see you (55).
No. No. Don't come. I won't see you. Don't you come. I don't want to hear from you. Ever. Ever (55).
Mariam has a miscarriage
Mariam thinks that she had made a deal with Jalil for him to take her to the movies for her birthday. Nana tells her that if she goes she will die. Mariam goes to see her father and he doesn't let her in because he is ashamed of her so she sleeps on his front porch. Then when she returns home the next day Nana had hung herself because she didn't think that Mariam was going to come back.
Jalil makes Mariam marry a 45 year old man, Rasheed. Mariam is not happy about this, but he does not stop the marriage from happening. Mariam does not want to see Jalil again.
Mariam has seven miscarriages and she is deeply upset when she has her first miscarriage. She cries and cries, but Rasheed is not sympathetic whatsoever which makes her more upset.
