Storyboard Text

  • “Beowulf’s coming, his sea-braving, made [Unferth] sick with envy” (501-502).
  • Aren’t you the Beowulf who challenged Breca in the sea, simply to prove your strength? And yet after seven nights enduring tempest-blown waves, Breca outswam you?
  • Beowulf replies, recounting the event, "Actually, Breca and I swam out, each holding a sword, but neither of us could outswim the other. We struggled for five nights until we were separated by the wind."
  • “My war-garments kept me safe from the sea monsters, and with my sword in hand, I finished off nine foul beasts."
  • ‘Now, I cannot recall any fight you entered, Unferth, that bears comparison’ (582-584).
  • There are no words that can express my gratitude to you for your willingness to aid my people, this certainly calls for some drinks!
